Jeppesen has successfully completed delivery of the industry-leading Carmen Crew Pairing optimization software to the Australian airline Qantas. At a handover ceremony at the Qantas head office in Sydney, Australia, Qantas officially took over the production of pairings planned with Carmen Crew Pairing. Qantas has already operated pairings produced in an outsourcing agreement by Jeppesen's Service Bureau for over six months for all 8,500 crew members, resulting in substantial savings for the airline.
The Carmen Crew Pairing project at Qantas was initialized in December 2005, and the first production delivery was made after only six weeks. In May 2006, highly productive crew pairings for all Qantas flight crew were produced.
John Willett, chief information officer at Qantas, said, "We are pleased that the pairings project has been delivered on time, within budget and with expected productivity results. Both organizations have developed a good working relationship."
Jan-Olof Ohlsson, director Crew & Fleet Solutions at Jeppesen, said, "Qantas has been an organization we wanted to work with for many years, we really wanted to prove our system in their operational environment. Qantas is a longtime user of traditional flight information services from Jeppesen. Recently, Jeppesen and Qantas finalized an agreement for Qantas to implement digital navigation charts throughout its operation. Jeppesen provides e-Link Internet chart and data delivery service, giving Qantas full access to tailored electronic charts and data via a secure internet connection.
