Technical details - IPTIS call centre application IPTIS call centre application provides the following modules:
Platforms The IPTIS system uses a Windows® NT/2000 server. Networked to this are client machines for the telephone agents, which are PC workstations, running Windows® NT/2000 or Windows® 98. Architecture For robustness and speed of processing, all data needed for enquiry processing is extracted from the database on the server and downloaded to the workstations at regular, convenient times. Hence, the core functionality on the workstations can be independent of the server for transport enquiry processing. By this means, there is no interference between the workstations and any number of them can be used without affecting the speed of processing. In addition, if the network or the server is temporarily disabled, the processing can be continued uninterrupted. Similarly, if one of the workstations is unavailable for any reason, the others can operate normally. This architecture provides a very robust and reliable system. Timetable database All necessary timetable and fares data is stored in a database on the server and downloaded in an extracted form to the PCs regularly. Carmen recommends an Oracle database. Mapping components Geographical information is stored on the PC's and includes route maps and stop locations, as well as streets with addresses, landmarks, suburb boundaries, etc. Mapinfo's MapX product is used by IPTIS to display stops, walking paths and routes maps and also to allow origins and destinations to be chosen from a map. Recommended specification A typical configuration would be as follows: IPTIS server consisting of:
Advice on the best configuration for a given installation is provided on a case-by-case basis. Development Carmen is committed to an on-going product development plan for IPTIS. This plan is shaped by requests from IPTIS users.
