UNIX/Linux Systems Specialist

Our New York offices specializes in personnel planning, scheduling, and management solutions with round-the-clock service to the aviation industry worldwide.

Essential Functions

  • Setup of Unix/Linux systems and installation of complex, multi-tier customized applications
  • Deployments of complex, multi-tiered software at the customer site or in our hosting datacenter
  • Environment setups for developer, test and production environments
  • Management of Maintenance contracts (include dealing with third-party vendors)
  • IBM ticket logging and issue tracking, including all follow up steps to resolve the problem (e.g. coordinating fixes with third-party vendors)
  • Creating UNIX/Linux shell scripts & setting up cron jobs
  • Act as backup support for database system expert on Oracle and Informix

Job Type: Full-Time Work Hours: Mon - Fri

Education/Experience
A Bachelor´s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and related work experience (6 to 9 years). UNIX or Linux certification is a preferred. Oracle or Informix certification is a plus!

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of networking in a mixed Unix/Linux/Windows environment
  • Efficient organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must be a self-starter, able to work and learn independently, in addition to being a team player. Can-do attitude and time management skills are critical.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and good work ethic
  • Must be flexible to work occasional off-hours and weekends as required
  • Will be required to carry a Blackberry and be on 24/7 support
  • Expected to travel up to 15% of the year
